RADARSAT ANTARCTIC MAPPING PROJECT MODIFIED ANTARCTIC MAPPING MISSION 2000 www-bprc.mps.ohio-state.edu/rsl To view the MAMM Velocities we have provided a graphic: mamm_velocity.png The continent of Antarctica was divided into 7 seperate regions in order to keep the magnitude of the file size reasonable. The geographic distribution can be visualized in the folling graphic: location.gif vel_1/ vel_2/ vel_3/ vel_4/ vel_5/ vel_6/ vel_7/ Each of the directories listed above contatin the following set of data (using vel_1 as an example): A) The MAMM velocity products (see product description below): README vel_1/velocity_overview.par vel_1/velocity_overview.dat vel_1/velocity_overview.conf vel_1/velocity_overview.ind vel_1/velocity_overview.dem vel_1/velocity_overview.img vel_1/m_data2raster.c vel_1/read_vmd.c B) We have taken the liberty of extracting the magnitude, Vx, Vy, Vz components from the data file (see #2 below). These are 32 bit float binaries. vel_1/RASTER/MAG_reg1 vel_1/RASTER/Vx_reg1 vel_1/RASTER/Vy_reg1 vel_1/RASTER/Vz_reg1 vel_1/RASTER/velocity_overview.par C) In addition we have created an ascii and a binary file that conatins the X, Y, magnitude, Vx, Vy, and Vz components. The X, Y map coordinates are polar stereographic, WGS84 spheriod. vel_1/ASCII/reg_1_ascii.bin binary (float) vel_1/ASCII/reg_1_ascii.txt ascii text file (no column headers) vel_1/ASCII/reg_1_ascii.hdr text file with format, column heading, number of columns and rows, total number of points. These files were created in MATLAB using the following script created by Yushin Ahn. clc;clear; filename = 'reg_1_ascii.txt'; output_cd = 'reg_1_ascii_cd.txt'; output_bin = 'reg_1_ascii_bin.bin'; fid_outcd=fopen(output_cd,'w'); fid=fopen(filename,'r'); tline=fgetl(fid); fprintf('Reading txt file, Writing comma delimitated file \t'); minx=9999999;maxx=-99999999; miny=9999999;maxy=-99999999; count=1; while ischar(tline) A=sscanf(tline,'%f%f%f%f%f%f'); fprintf(fid_outcd,'%8.2f, %8.2f, %8.4f, %8.4f, %8.4f, %8.4f\n',A(1),A(2),A(3),A(4),A(5),A(6)); tline=fgetl(fid); count=count+1; end fclose(fid); fclose(fid_outcd); fprintf('[done]\n'); %% binary % col # of pts % x y mag vx vy vz fid_outbin=fopen(output_bin,'wb'); fid=fopen(filename,'r'); tline=fgetl(fid); fprintf('Reading txt file, Writing binary \t'); colume=6; fwrite(fid_outbin,colume,'float'); fwrite(fid_outbin, count-1,'float'); while ischar(tline) A=sscanf(tline,'%f%f%f%f%f%f'); fwrite(fid_outbin,A,'float'); tline=fgetl(fid); end fclose(fid); fclose(fid_outbin); fprintf('[done]\n'); ------------------------------------------------------- The following is a description of each component of the MAMM Velocity Product. 1) velocity_overview.par The parameter file contains the names of the data files, image dimensions, upper left corner map coordinates and pixel spacing. 2) velocity_overview.dat This data file is a binary file containing 8 different elements for each velocity point. Each element is a 32 bit float raster file. Each point internally is defined by the following structure: FIELD NAME DESCRIPTION magnitude ice flow velocity (meters/year) elevation; Elevation of point slope_x; East component of terrain slope slope_y; West component of terrain slope Vx; East component of ice velocity Vy; North component of ice velocity Vz; Vertical component of ice velocity speed_error; Speed Error dir_error; Directional Error long int offset; Offset to entry in conflation file Each data element can be extracted from the *.dat file using the m_data2raster.c code provided (see below). 3) velocity_overview.conf The Conflation file contains for each point, information on all source data contributing to that point. The conflation index can be extracted using read_vmd.c code (see below). The offset field gives the number of bytes to the start of each conflation block for each point. to the entry in the index table described below. 4) velocity_overview.ind The datatake index file contains the information on the datatake pair from which the velocities were derived. The datatake index can be extracted using read_vmd.c code (see below). After extraction, the following information will be given for each datatake: 5) velocity_overview.dem This contains a 400meter 16-bit binary coregistered DEM covering the area of interest. 6) velocity_overview.img This contains a 400meter 16-bit binary coregistered power image (SAR orthorectified mosaic) covering the area of interest. 7) The software consists of the following: m_data2raster - Extracts any of the velocity elements from the velocity_overview.dat into a floating point raster. read_vmd.c - For any point given in the raster will print out all information concerning that point (extacts data contained in the velocity_overview.conf and velocity_overview.ind
