About the Project

A team from Ohio State’s Byrd Polar Research Center is currently in Antarctica as part of LARISSA, an International Polar Year (IPY) project Funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation. These OSU scientists join an interdisciplinary, international team of scientists collecting data to help understand the abrupt environmental changes occurring in the Larsen Ice Shelf region of the Antarctic Peninsula, where temperatures have risen markedly in the last 60 years.
